Discover the refreshed charm of LOGE Glacier, the celebrated property formerly known as the Izaak Walton Inn, strategically positioned in Essex, Montana, at Glacier National Park's southern gateway. This historic chalet, originally built in 1939 by the Great Northern Railway to house its crews, has evolved into a welcoming haven for modern travelers arriving by car, train, or plane, all while retaining its profound connection to railroad history.
LOGE Glacier offers a diverse array of inviting accommodations, ensuring a unique stay for every guest. Choose from comfortably appointed historic lodge rooms within the main building, spacious and cozy family cabins, or experience the unparalleled novelty of staying in one of the ingeniously converted train car and caboose cabins. This prime location acts as a perfect midpoint for exploring both the west and east sides of Glacier National Park, surrounded by a million acres of untouched wilderness, characterized by dramatic peaks, abundant wildlife, and ancient glaciers.
The lodge is a true year-round destination for outdoor enthusiasts. During the winter, LOGE Glacier transforms into a premier spot for snow adventures and world-class cross-country skiing, offering convenient snowshoe and ski rentals directly on-site. Guests can refine their skills with ski lessons across more than 30 kilometers of meticulously groomed Nordic trails. In collaboration with Glacier Adventure Guides, guided day tours are also available, providing immersive experiences into Glacier's breathtaking winter landscape.
As the seasons transition to warmer months, the Walton Ranger Station, located just under a mile from LOGE Glacier, serves as a convenient access point to numerous trailheads. These paths wind along the picturesque Middle Fork of the Flathead River, leading towards the Old Creek drainage and eventually to the continental divide, alongside various other routes that delve deep into Glacier's stunning interior.
While honoring its storied past, LOGE Glacier has undergone thoughtful renovations to introduce updated amenities and enhance guest comfort. This careful balance ensures that the spirit of the original inn endures, offering an unparalleled base where the grandeur of Glacier National Park beautifully converges with the timeless legacy of the railway, promising both exhilarating exploration and peaceful relaxation.
