Glacier Park Lodge is a rustic, western-themed lodge, located at the eastern gateway of Glacier National Park in the small town of East Glacier, Montana.
The lodge was built by the Great Northern Railway along the main line of the Burlington Northern Railroad, attracting many of the park's visitors who choose to travel by train.
The main highlight of Glacier Park Lodge is the massive Douglas Fir pillars that support the impressive lobby. Sixty giant timbers standing 40 feet high with a diameter of 40 inches each are used to support the lodge. These massive timber pillars were around 500 to 800 years old when cut and each of them still retains their original bark today. The Blackfeet Indians in the area named the lodge “Omahkoyis” or “Big Tree Lodge”. The lobby gift shop showcases local Blackfeet Indian crafts and souvenirs.
The lodge invites you to enjoy the seasonal heated outdoor swimming pool and the nine-hole golf course.
Guests of Glacier Park Lodge will also enjoy several on-site dining options including the Great Northern Dining Room, the Empire Bar, and the Empire Cafe Espresso Stand.
There are 161 rooms accommodating over 500 guests. Glacier Park Lodge rooms are located on the second and third floors of the main building of the original lodge. The Great Northern Wing, completed in 1915, is separated from the main lobby by a glass-enclosed breezeway and offers quieter, more spacious rooms. Some of the rooms feature a shared balcony.
Standard amenities at Glacier Park Lodge include BeeKind environmentally-friendly products, golden memory pillows, energy efficient lighting, super topper mattress cover, a Glacier guidebook, alarm clock, and telephone. Guests may request an iron/ironing board, fan, and hairdryer.
