St. Mary Village

The price was exorbitant for what you received. A Motel 6 room would have provided a better room, by far, and for less.

I have not seen this with other lodging, but you had to step up into the room. For shorter people like my wife, this posed a problem. This would be difficult for older people with physical handicaps. The room was crowded with two beds and would have been more comfortable or roomier with just one bed. The bed we slept on slightly dipped in the middle and was not comfortable. There was no closet, and the small shelf with a few hangers for clothes underneath was narrow and next to the desk. Also, the bathroom vanity was small and low. A tall person’s head would likely be above the low-lying mirror. There were three sprinklers below the ceiling with pipes extending from the walls to the sprinklers. This reminded me of an old, rundown building. The pipes over the second bed could be used to hang your clothes. The heating/cooling unit appeared almost dysfunctional. The knobs did not work, but at least the buttons did. The room had a clock and hair dryer, and the step-in shower was modern and clean. There was not a bathtub, which my wife would have enjoyed taking a bath, but that was not a deal breaker. There were sufficient towels and pillows. The room had a table and chair, but there was not another chair for leisure. For the price, our room needed much improvement, and I would not recommend staying here. The other rooms that are priced higher might be worth it, but my wife and I felt cheated for the price we paid for what we received. Also, the food choices were not that great. We stayed at another hotel in Columbia Falls, Montana, for about the same price, and the differences were stark. At the hotel in Columbia Falls, we had a comfortable bed, an aesthetically pleasing room, a microwave and small refrigerator, a clean bathroom with a nice vanity and bathtub, pool and hot tub access, and a continental breakfast with warm, delicious food and a good assortment of other food. St. Mary Village had none of this. They did have a small TV with cable access through DISH® Network or DIRECTV. I could not tell which one, but I believe it was the former. I do not know about East Glacier Lodge, but I would seriously consider that lodging before you book a reservation at St. Mary Village. I understand that during the tourist season hotels and other businesses need to make up for low attendance during the winter months, but the St. Mary Village prices were more in the gouging range. As one frank employee said, “We charge these high prices because we can.” We did receive a $50.00 discount. However, from what we experienced, the discount should have been more like $100.00. This room needs serious remodeling if you continue to charge the present rate.

it is very convenient. The prices are extravagant. We paid in excess of $350 for a single bed room in addition to having to have a $200 holding fee placed on our credit card. Our room was across the street from the main lodge. It was very small. The only outlet available that was not blocked by furniture was by the sink. In addition to the bed it had one wooden chair. The room was neither comfortable nor reasonably priced.

A major lowlight of our trip to Glacier

We stayed in the "West Motel." The first tipoffs were the peeling paint on the exterior and the protruding nailhead on the exterior doorframe. The room was tiny -- the king bed took up a major part of the floor space. The bed barely fit between one wall and the bathroom door, so that it was next to impossible to walk around the far side of the bed. There were no bedside tables nor lamps, so it was impossible to use my CPAP. There was only one chair -- a rickety desk chair. There was no closet nor anyplace at all to hang clothes. The small TV was on a side wall, making it very hard to view from the bed. There was a draft coming in from around the door, and there was a gouge in the wall above the desk. On the plus side, the room was clean, the bed linens and towels were very nice, and the heater worked OK, but those things were hardly enough to get this review up to two stars. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the breakfast buffet that included cold scrambled eggs and hard scones.

Loved the running brook behind the hotel, kept our patio door open when in the room, was so relaxing. Only thing is the elevator would work on and off, not sure why but luckily we were on the second floor and staff helped with our luggage!

Published Date: Jul, 7, 2025 Travel Date: Jul, 1, 2025 Rating: 5 Our family of 4 stayed in the Great Bear Lodge for 3 nights. The room was spacious. There were 2 queen beds, a desk, a recliner, a TV hutch, and a closet. There was actually ample room for a small table and chairs as well, which our family would've utilized more than a desk. There was not a lot of drawers, but we used the space we had. I had asked about a rollaway bed for one of our tweens, and there were none available. However, our daughter slept in the recliner and said it was comfortable.
We chose this lodging over in park lodging. We were able to have air conditioning, wifi, a mini-fridge, and a TV. We were super close to the St. Mary Visitor Center and entrance to Going-to-the-Sun Road. We could see them from our balcony. The location was extremely convenient for all of Glacier National Park, and we didn't need reservations to get into the park from the East side. Many Glacier and Two Medicine were a short drive, rather than 2+ hours from the west.
The front desk workers and housekeepers were very nice. We didn't eat at the hotel, so I can't speak to the food. We ended up driving a block or so north to Park Cafe to grab take out one night.
I would definitely recommend this location to anyone going to Glacier National Park.
