Great time in Gardiner on the river!

We had a great experience at the Ridgeline. Notices regarding grab and go breakfast (due to Covid) and notice of suspension of daily housekeeping service (due to Covid) were clearly posted. We didn't need to ask for much, but when we did the front desk was friendly and efficient. We had a room on the river, which in my opinion is the best location. We had elk right in front of our railing one morning. (Only drawback to river front rooms is that you will have someone above you.) I have noticed some people in their reviews seem to prefer the gateway town of West Yellowstone over Gardiner; that is a personal preference and I have stayed in both. Gardiner had a much less manic feel to me this summer and I am glad we stayed there.

While very close to Yellowstone National Park the hotel is old and outdated. Needs a lot of improvement. They do have a detached restaurant which was closed durning our visit for lack of able to hire help. Gardiner is a seasonal town so the prices are going to be high no matter where you stay. For the price it is very disappointing. There are nicer hotels in the town. West Yellowstone is much more suited for a longer stay for the same prices. There was a large fire in Gardiner in July that laid waste to many business in town.

When we arrived we were met by a very friendly gal- answered all our questions made us laugh. We booked a river room, from the pictures online I was skeptical but there were 3 different buildings with rooms- ours was right on the river and we could sit on the deck chairs watching the rafters go by. It was an older building but redone nicely. We had a hot shower with great pressure- you don’t always think about that! The beds were comfy! One thing that stands out was when we returned the pool key I walked through the building while my dripping wet kids walked outside- there was an elk in the parking lot; she saw my kids (12 & 8) before I came into the lobby and safely escorted them away from the elk and to our building. She told us some stories about elk and told us that normally she would say we were way too close while we were talking but because of the fence we were fine. Her genuine friendliness is really an asset to the hotel! Thank you!

Good location, okay hotel.

The hotel and room was fine. The river view was beautiful. The only problems we had were as follows: The air conditioning was pretty loud. The room wasn't attended to at all. We didn't need new linen or beds made, but it would have been nice to have the coffee replenished and garbage taken out. Also, I realize that with this covid thing going on that there is no breakfast included, which is understandable. However, we asked for simple items such as paper plates, utensils, and salt and pepper so we could eat what we purchased at the grocery store. We were told they didn't have any of those items, which is hard to believe considering they would have had all those things just a few months ago. I don't think they threw it all away, but just didn't want to go get these items.

When I booked the room, the website stated a "Grab & Go" breakfast would be included. When I arrived, I asked for the breakfast times and was informed that they were not doing breakfast any longer. I asked about the Grab and Go. She said the vendor stopped supplying. I told her the website stated it was included. She said they stopped after I had booked the room. I felt like an email or a quick phone call should have gone out warning customers to bring something for breakfast. We could have prepared. There are very few options for breakfast in the area. We had a hard time finding anything but coffee. Also, they did not clean the room during our stay. No one brought extra towels to the room or anything else. When I called to inquire, she stated they had stopped cleaning rooms for the time being. I told her that someone should have told us at check-in. I asked about getting extra towels. She said they were out of towels for the night and to try back between 10am and noon the next day. We needed to take showers that night and we were planning to leave the next morning by 7am. So, telling me to check back tomorrow was UNACCCEPTABLE. Who runs out of towels? There were hardly any cars in the parking lot while we were there. They were NOT sold out. I would not recommend the hotel to friends and family.
