Three of us stayed in the Lakehouse, all working on our own writing. Reading aloud, sharing our work, cooking delicious meals and walking and yoga filled our week with the snow-laden La Plata's ever present in shifting light. Willowtail is lovingly tended by inspiring Peggy and Lee Cloy who are all about enable guests to unleash thier creative energies in this peaceful retreat.

The quiet winter energy of this lovely, remote place, proved perfect for a productive and inspired writing retreat. We were comfy, cozy and held by the creativity this location and its wonderful hosts, the Cloys, inspire! Highly recommend!

We loved our stay with Peggy and Lee at Willowtail Springs. Accommodations were very comfortable and well-appointed. We cooked some meals in the kitchen and found absolutely everything we needed for meal prep and service, and then some. Peggy's wonderful artwork hangs throughout the cottages It adds both warmth and sophistication to the ambiance and makes it feel like you are inside a creative cocoon. Our group of girlfriends were discussing plans for our next trip, and we decided to come back here.

Solitude with grocery, brewery 15 minutes nearby

An ideal location for anyone seeking peace and quiet in a well-stocked cabin. Cabins are clean, furnished, cozy and come with wifi. The cabins are about a 15-minute drive into the town of Mancos, a sleepy town which boasts a brewery, a cidery, a bakery, grocery and a few cool shops. This is an ideal place to spend alone or with family.

A Premium Price For Not so Premium Experience

This is a review based off a 4 night stay in the Garden Cottage at the beginning of March 2021. I do not feel like this stay lived up to the expectations we had or have seen others receive based on reviews on AirBnB and here. This stay was booked through Airbnb and total price was $1k. Our Cottage was DIRTY and certainly did not seem as though the cottage was cleaned to COVID expectations. In my honest opinion, it had not been cleaned in at least two weeks. This may be due to the slow time of year and less travelers, but it was dirty nonetheless. UNHAPPY THINGS Things we noticed and were not happy with was the amount of Cobwebs throughout the cabin. First morning I woke up early to turn the temperature up for my wife and walked into a fresh set of webs going across the doorway. My wife is very freaked out by spiders and this made the stay very uncomfortable for her. I did take several pictures of these webs stretching across the whole main beam of the ceiling and near the pots above the bathroom doorway to represent how unclean the cabin was. To tag on to the webs, any dishes or cups we used we had to wash before using them because there was a layer of dust both inside and out of the dishes provided. Dust on all the dressers as well. The mattress was not a 5 star experience at all. We could just tell this mattress was old or cheap or both... it was very uncomfortable and probably from the 70's. Each night we stayed we woke up sweating because of the mattress material and we did try to leave the window to the cabin open to help and we still woke up sweating. You can hear the springs with any movement while asleep. The frame also squeaks a lot. One of the main reasons we chose this place to stay was the hot tub which we only ended up using one night because of there being no clear path without snow or the slick ice. I imagined a decently clear path to get to the tub. The hot tub was also not clean and had rocks and gravel at the bottom from other guests in the past. Here's another thing to keep in mind. There is a TV in the living room that is maybe 8 inches. It is smaller than some TVs in SUVs so that is pretty useless if you have kids. Granted we went to be secluded and away from technology so it didn't bother us. SECLUSION/PRIVACY? My wife was naked getting out of the shower/restroom and there was an owner walking past to the pump house. Zero curtains where she was standing. Hot tub is right below the owner cabin which is a 2 story. Made us feel uncomfortable. I feel we paid a premium price for a not so premium or 5 star experience. We did reach out to Peggy for some help and possible compensation but the response was very very limited and only addressed the issue of speaking with the cleaning crew to "work harder." With the location where it is, I highly doubt they have a cleaning crew come out to clean.
