Loved the location. We were .5 miles from park entrance. Good morning breakfast and hot coffee was waiting for us. The lodge was comfortable, clean and the kitchenette was a big plus! we will definitely return.

Great cabins but service needs tweaking

Our family was doing a 3 day Yellowstone trip before moving on to our next destination. Selected these cabins to provide flexibility for meals, hanging out, etc. Overall, we’re pleased with the cabin—clean, modern, nice amenities (coffee, water, books, s’mores kits all great). We also loved the nearby fire pits and outdoor decks on the cabins. Overall, we’d recommend to others….but The facility has some definite service challenges. First, When we checked in, there was a line out the door and one poor employee trying to meet everyone’s needs. Courtney did it with as much speed, efficiency and hospitality as I’ve seen at a front desk (she should really be commended)—but she was all alone—all afternoon and evening. Second, housekeeping was supposed to come (we requested) and didn’t. Ok—tried again the next day. The front desk person (not Courtney) literally made me describe each task for housekeeping—I said”I’d like them to clean the bathroom” but apparently I needed to say things like “replace used towels, empty trash, etc” And most of the things weren’t done, regardless—so they took dirty towels, but left us with none. Didn’t empty the waste baskets but made the bed. Not deal-breakers, and all the workers tried to make things right, but Management probably needs to make some needed tweaks to training and staffing.

Avoid at all costs

We spent close to 7000 for a week stay here and have been asking for DAYS for housekeeping and for the trash to be emptied. We asked yesterday again and this morning stating we would be gone ALL day and to PLEASE do a full service and came home to the following: no one emptied the trash, the linens weren’t changed (the bed was made with dirty linens), personal items THROWN on the floor, dirty towels left in the bathroom, clean towels were there BUT left in a plastic bag on the bathroom counter (??). I would get it if we were here for a night but we have been here since SUNDAY and it’s Friday now. The front desk “clerk” also told me there is NO supervisor on for the whole weekend saying “they don’t work on weekends”. For close to 1000 a night (yes, that’s right) one would expect some sort of housekeeping standard. Avoid this place. It’s not worth the money and the front desk clerk lied about the supervisor not being here all weekend.

Good choice

First I’ll say the Explorer Cabins were not what I expected. I thought the surroundings would be more natural as West Yellowstone is right outside the park. In actuality, the cabins are located on a spit of land between parking lots. But they are surrounded by trees on that strip and after exploring WY, they are the closest to what I was expecting that you will find. Once i got over that surprise I was quite happy with them. The room and bathroom are spacious and quiet and very clean. The location is great, right across the street from the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Ctr - must do - and a block away from the park entrance. Each group of six cabins has a firepit surrounded by Adirondack chairs. S’mores kits are provided in the room. Two bottles of water in reusable tin canteens were a really nice and useful touch. Sitting on the covered porch before dinner was very private and pleasant. Parking is convenient right behind the cabins. Kitchenette is well stocked and has a toaster and coffee maker along with microwave and two burner stove top, plus tea kettle. Plates, utensils and glasses are all provided and there’s a dishwasher. Room temperature was very comfortable and I liked having the big, quiet ceiling fan. In the morning, I borrowed a bike from the front desk and tooled around town while the family slept in. Picked up some breakfast sandwiches

The Explorer Cabins are a perfect place to stay. They are past the shops and the main traffic area, so they’re quiet and you can hear the birds singing. Our cabin is 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, fireplace, kitchenette, and a couch. We relax outside on the deck reading. Or hop on some e-bikes to explore West Yellowstone. We have s’mores fixings and a fire pit. We can walk the two blocks to town or make snacks here. We love the privacy and quiet of the cabins. But we also appreciate the ease and kindness of the staff when we checked in. This is a two thumbs up place.
