This was our second time staying at an Under Canvas property. After a stellar experience at the Under Canvas Grand Canyon, we had mixed feelings about the North Yellowstone location. Pro’s: love the accommodations - tent was clean & comfortable, the Suite size tent was perfect for our family of 4. The property was beautiful - fantastic view of the mountains & loved hearing the sounds of the river from our tent the first night. The atmosphere was fun & festive. The staff responded quickly to our requests for extra blankets & an adjustment to the water temp. Con’s: The food was just ok & service was very slow. They need more than just 1-2 people working the restaurant & bar at peak times. Note the bar is beer & wine only. The second night was very noisy given a neighboring rancher was pumping water from the river for irrigation ALL night. Gone were the peaceful sounds of the river, it was difficult to sleep with the noise of the pump. Noted this is not in Under Canvas’s control & while they were apologetic, it definitely impacted our stay. In summary, love the Under Canvas concept but not this particular location.

We had a fabulous time at the North Yellowstone site. A stunning setting and very peaceful. The tents were very comfortable and clean. The staff were amazing. Great food. It was the perfect night away with the family. We also stayed at the West Yellowstone site, but we much preferred this location. It was quieter, the food was much better and the kids tent was more comfortable and spacious. It was also slightly warmer at night too.

Great stay but this place needs shade!

The paradise valley is gorgeous and the setting is lovely. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The main problem is there is no shade and it is hot during the day. Would love to see trees planted, a real shade awning at the restaurant and some shade for the hammocks. The restaurant is average. We had great stay overall. If you think of the experience as camping, you’ll appreciate the amenities.

Flaming 45 Minutes from Yellowstone Gate

There is an expectations gap issue. At around $500 per night, I expected a much better experience. With Yellowstone in the name, I expected to be closer to the park. It takes at least 45 minutes to get to the park, given we were there to enjoy Yellowstone, this presented an issue. Once booked, Under Canvas does not provide refunds--. We came in late the first night, checked in an attempted to get something to eat. Staff appeared to be working hard but serving us was so slow, we went to Livingstone for dinner, a 20 minute drive. Under Canvas needs more staff given what is charged. Speed limit in Livingstone is 25 MPH. We know this well. We returned earlier on day two and did not even try the restaurant given the day one experience. Here is the worst part. It gets cold at night even in the summer. There is a small stove in the tent. You must reload the stove about every half hour to keep it going. I fell asleep and texted for the fire starter kits at 2am. There was no response. I decided against getting up, getting dressed and walking 200 yards. More kits should be placed in the rooms. It is my first time "glamping." I gave no thought to the freezing issue. Basically, we checked in, got a tent and were on our own. Under Canvas should anticipate comfort items may be needed. It really should respond as promised. We do National Parks and plan on staying close to or in the park from now on. I am a Hyatt Globalist, other unique properties do much better.

Perfect!

We spent five nights with Under Canvas while we ran around Yellowstone and Paradise Valley. The tents were clean and cozy and the stove was easy to use when it ended up being in the 40s/30s for most of our trip. The bathroom setup was super nice and functional, and still bearable in the chill. The entire staff is amazing, helpful, and accommodating. Just ask for absolutely anything you need. You can get hot water bottles to warm the bed, refreshed battery packs whenever needed, and housekeeping on request. We only asked for the stove to be cleaned once and towels to be replaced twice and everything was always ready for us when we got back at the end of the day. The on-site restaurant is wonderful and perfect for easy, delicious food after running around all day. The base menu is great, but the daily specials were always fantastic and my go-to order. Can't wait to go back and try other locations too!
