No value for the money. Stay in Columbia Falls instead

We felt like it was the poorest value for the money of anywhere we have ever stayed. Second hand bargain furniture they want to call rustic. No mini fridge, no coffeemaker, no ice bucket even. Poor quality fans to make up for lack of air conditioning with no possible cross ventilation. Bathroom was ridiculously small. If you’re overweight it will be a tight fit to get on the toilet. It was clean I’ll grant you. Called several times before booking to see if staying there gave us vehicle passes. No one ever answered or called back. And no, staying there does not exempt you from vehicle passes. So what’s the point. Columbia Falls is close and for the same price can get a 5 star room at Meadow Lake.

Our cabin had room for a lot of improvement

I frequently use reviews to help me decide if a place is going to fit our needs and often am really satisfied with our stays. Our experience at this property did not meet our expectations. There may be nice cabins on this property but the one we were assigned to was not maintained well at all. While historic cabins are not meant to be new, we do have the expectation that they are well maintained but that wasn’t true of our cabin. A few examples of the neglect were that the screen on the front door was ripped, allowing rodents to get in. The screen door didn’t close and there wasn’t a latch to keep it closed. The kitchen floor was either not cleaned or so stained that it appears dirty all of the time. The bathroom floor by the toilet was soft, as though water had been leaking, damping the floor, causing rot. Lights that were attached to the wall were askew, a dining room chair was broken and poorly repaired so that it wasn’t sturdy enough to sit in, and chairs upstairs in the loft were left so dirty no one would want to sit on them. The best part of our stay was the proximity to Glacier, bed bedding was clean, and the fact that our family of 5 could all be together. When I stopped by the front desk they did listen to my concern about the property. I truly believe this cabin should be taken offline and improved. All things considered, I would never stay here again. While we had to drive a bit more to get into the park, our accommodations in Columbia Falls where we spent a few nights were exponentially better and was less expensive.

Can't beat the location and the atmosphere!

We stayed in one of the lodge's tiny cabins - so nice! Don't go in expecting luxury, but for location and for views/atmosphere? You can not beat this place. Right in the heart of Apgar village - you can walk to Lake McDonald, and lots of cute restaurants and stores. The cabin was nicely appointed, cute little porch/screen door and your own table and chairs and Adirondacks out front.

Upgrades definitely needed, especially considering the price

We stayed in one of the cabins that are part of the Lodge. The cabin view was spectacular and the cabin was spacious and comfortable. However, there was no housekeeping service automatically provided and nothing in writing informing us that housekeeping was only available on request. When the garbage was overflowing after we had been there for 2 days, we went to the office where we were informed that we needed to ask for housekeeping. We asked that the garbage be removed. It was not done that day and we had to ask again the following day after we had emptied the recyclable portion into the bin of another hotel. We also requested a clean bathmat and additional toilet paper as there was a huge leak at the base of the shower stall and we were about to turn out of toilet paper. Finally on day 3 housekeeping came and removed the garbage, replenished the toilet paper and gave us a clean bath mat In addition, the screens do not fit the windows so that there are huge spaces when the windows are opened. We had mosquitos and yellow jackets in the cabin frequently In addition, the toilet seat was too large for the toilet so that it was impossible to sit on the toilet facing forward as one's knees hit the wall. And finally, the front screen door did not fit at all so that the front door could not be left open for air as even more insects came in. The front door itself is warped and swollen so that it had to be kicked to open and slammed to shut

This is not luxury and yes the price is high (welcome to national park lodging), but the location is great. If you want to stay inside Glacier national park this is a good choice. The cabins are old, paint is chipping, furniture is worn, but in my opinion that is all part of the adventure and charm! We found our cabin to be clean. We really only slept in the cabin as we were out exploring/hiking enjoying the park during the day. Our cabin overlooked the river and after a long day hiking we loved jumping in the chilly river. Also loved walking around Apgar village, getting coffee and ice cream. The staff were all nice and welcoming.
