Great vibe, very clean, for families or friends

We’ve stayed at the GC Lodge in the past as a family (and like it), but next time plan to stay at Kaibab Lodge and visit the GC Lodge for drinks and views only. The vibe at Kaibab Lodge is simply great in my opinion, and very convenient for hikers (just outside the Park entrance).
Cabins are simple yet spotlessly clean. The location (by the side of a huge sweeping meadow) is amazing. The owner and his family work the desk, and we found all employees professional and just…happy to be there.
On our Saturday night, the large main room and dining area were filled with families, couples and groups of friends who happily shared the buffet (which is simple yet very good), then lingered at tables to play cards, games or just have a bottle of wine.
Note: WIFI is great but only available in the main lodge.

Kaiba Lodge made our trip!

Kaibab Lodge delivered in spades!
The shuttle driver was pleasant, efficient, and informative.
Our cabins were spotless and comfortable and an incredible value. The buffet was tasty and plentiful, plus there was a very nice atmosphere to the evening. The owner was visible and very nice.
Shuttle ride to the trailhead was smooth.
We are 7 very hard to please individuals and have already decided to go back next year. We are planning to hike South to North so that we have an evening at the lodge to look forward to on the trek.

The first day was magnificent seeing the Grand Canyon. 12 hour hike was amazing but tiring. We were picked up by the owner and driven to Kaibab Lodge. When we arrived at the lodge he then informed us he did not have rooms for us!!! What!! He had brought in RV's that would accommodate 2 of our party and 20 miles down the road 2 rooms for the rest of us. After an exhausting day this just deflated me. I was so excited to do the next leg of our trip back to south rim but it was getting late, we had a 20 min drive then shower and repack for the next day. It seriously deflated me. He kept saying I could have cancelled, well maybe he should have so we knew what to expect instead of last minute. When you are tired and exhausted decisions don't come easy. I just wish for better communication from the owners so we were not hit with it after a long day. By staying at the other lodge 20 min away we would have to get up an hour earlier just to get to the trail head. At this time it was almost 10:00 pm we hadn't showered so we made the decision to not do the second leg of our trip. That meant spending and additional $90 for the ride back to South Rim. We had reservations made at Kaibab and confirmed in Feb - the lodge gave ours away hoping someone would cancel - what kind of business does that? We had several conversations with Annette the last few months and not once mentioned we have over booked - If you stay here especially during the busy season - BEWARE!!!!

Stay away from this hotel!

We had hiked for 12 hours and planned to meet the owner at the north rim trail head. He picked us up on time and we drove the 20 minute drive to the lodge. Our drive was fine and conversation was light. Upon arriving at the hotel; however, the owner then decided to tell us that there was no reservation. Huh?? We had made the reservation in February 2022 and confirmed it multiple times but the owner told us that a party of 35 had come in and they needed 3 cabins so he gave them ours! We couldn't believe it. He proceeded to let us know that we could stay in an RV he had on site and 2 rooms at a hotel 30 minutes away. Well we had no option so we said yes. Turned out the RV had no hot water, both places had no coffee and breakfast sandwiches we were told we could order for the shuttle ride back to the north rim trail head the next day were not available because the chef decided he wasn't coming to work. What we still can't figure out is why the owner gave our reservation away!! Additionally we still had to pay for what they did give us plus $25 per person for a terrible buffet dinner! Also, there was never an apology from the wife who made our reservation and confirmed it multiple times either. When she did appear, she merely offered us a plate full of store bought cookies with a smile. Only she offered mine across the table because (yes this is true), she thought I might "hit her." It still feels like a bad dream. Don't stay at this hotel, especially if you've just hiked 12 hours across Grand Canyon! The owners just may have given your reservation away!

Total disbelief, not in a good way !!!

All that we wanted was some food, a shower and a place to lay down. We were exhausted. (there were 8 of us) The shuttle picked us up, on time, took us to the Lodge where we find out there are NO rooms for us? This lodging was booked and payed for in February!!! The Buffet was still open so we could at least eat. The buffet was $25 per person. The food was not edible!! Fish sticks and lumpy mashed potatoes.
We were offered an RV (for 8?) or 2 rooms down the road (another 30 minute drive) They knew we were coming and we had not cancelled, we had shipped boxes ahead and spoken to the owners on numerous occasions. A large group of 35, we were told, had taken over all the available rooms? They kept saying we could have just cancelled you and refunded your money??
We all chose not to hike back the next day and that we would catch the shuttle.... a good choice. No hot water in the RV or heat for the 2 that stayed, and there would have been NO breakfast or coffee for the 6 that went to the other lodge.( We were promised this on the drive over.) The chef was out on strike? I cannot comment on the rooms/cabins as we never saw one.
And no apology!! It was so disappointing we had such high expectations especially after speaking with the owner who had assured us we would totally be looked after.
We were in total disbelief. So deflated after our amazing journey through the canyon!!
