The cabin was cute, and the hot shower was much appreciated after hiking rim to rim. If you’re a light sleeper, you DEFINITELY need to request a single cabin. The shared wall is nothing more than a privacy shield. I could hear everything, including their iPhone alarm at 4am. It would’ve been nice if they had thought to leave the exterior light on for us when we arrived in the dark, and a basic level of heat in the cabin would’ve been nice. The heating unit is HOT and a little tricky to control. There’s no wifi and no cell service, unless you’re in the main building where the restaurant and gift shop are. They have a nice selection of souvenirs as well as toiletries you may require. The Kaibab Lodge met our expectations. The downfall was actually the shuttle service. It picked us up from North rim but hung out to wait for other people booked that didn’t show (after hiking for 12 hours, I wasn’t in the mood to wait!). It’s about a 30 minute drive to the Lodge from the North Rim. The following day we had booked the shuttle to bring us back to the south rim. For something they do every day, it was an organizational fiasco. There was no information delivery, we left late, the seats are tiny (if you’re a large person, you will literally not fit); it felt like it was the first time they every tried to orchestrate a shuttle. The drop off is Bright Angel Lodge, so if you parked at the visitor center you will need to take another shuttle bus to get there after the drop off.

Our Sunrise Aspen Grove cabin A1 had an attractive wooden interior. Clean sheets and towels. Beds were comfortable. Freshly washed wood floor. Fridge and microwave worked fine. Plenty of hot water, although the holder for shower nozzle was wobbly. We had cold nights and furnace was excellent. The North Rim is lush pine forest. We walked the Transept Trail early and were alone. The park lodge and restaurant were not crowded.

Best place to stay for a visit to North Rim Grand Canyon. Lovely drive to and from the canyon, past a big herd of bison. Main lodge room big and comfy. Bar, big leather chairs and couches, tables, games to play. Restaurant offers buffet breakfast and lunch, fair priced, good food and plentiful. In the meadow you can watch amazing dark night sky. Ask for a room that looks onto the meadow or on the other side toward the woods. Staff cheerful, friendly, easy-going.

We stayed here for a family road trip to the North Rim and weren't expecting much based on the reviews, but there was no other choice. The NPS lodge was closed due to a break in the pipe that supplies their water. 6 of us stayed in Sam's Cabin and 2 couples stayed in 2 units in the 4-plex cabins. Sam's Cabin was clean but was pretty small for 6 people. There are no doors between the sleeping areas, so unless all the guests are pretty close, the lack of privacy might be an issue. The bunk beds are right next to the door to the bathroom and my daughter said she could hear everything if someone was using it. The couples that were in the 4-plex cabins said the walls were very thin and they could even hear someone unzipping their suitcase in the next unit. If you are a light sleeper, I would recommend getting a stand-alone cabin. Otherwise, the bathrooms were a bit dated and worn, but clean enough and the hot water was plentiful. The sleeping areas were cozy and welcoming and the beds were comfortable. We weren't expecting wifi in the cabin, but 2 people staying in Sam's Cabin that had the room closest to the lodge were able to get some service. The area is very remote and peaceful and the meadow next to the property is very pretty.

Next best alternative for GC North Rim

Originally we were supposed to stay at the Lodge at Grand Canyon North Rim. One month before our trip, we were informed they had to cancel due to water main break at the Lodge. I must admit I was both surprised and relieved to find there was still space available at Kaibab Lodge (although choices were limited). We ended up booking the EastView Unit for one night. Kaibab Lodge is the closest alternate location to stay for the North Rim. It is about a 15-min drive to the entrance. The staff at the main Kaibab lodge was very friendly. Our room was on the upper floor of C building (EastView). It is cheery and bright, but otherwise fairly small and basic. It has no fridge, no closet. Bathroom is fairly small with a small shower area. It has a strong smell of cleaning agent when we arrived; as well as quite a few flies. We got rid of the flies and there weren't additional ones that appeared. Our room also only had 2 double beds; some rooms have Queen + double, so make sure you read the description clearly prior to booking. We had the buffet dinner at the Lodge that night, and buffet breakfast the next morning. Both have normal fare but decent, and the staff is super nice. The main lodge is super cozy, with good wifi. After dinner we hung out on the big sofas in the main lodge for a while, and the staff actually started a fire in the fireplace. Even in June, it goes down to the 30s and 40sF at night. The *best* part of our stay however, is the balcony from our room. That night we sat out on the balcony in our PJs to view the night sky. Having been to Bryce Canyon a few days prior, I must say the sky is darker here than at Bryce. We were able to see several constellations as well as the milky way just from our balcony (facing East)! I am still disappointed that we didn't get to stay at the Grand Canyon Lodge, but this alternative ended up working well anyway.
