Living on Past Laurels--not up to snuff now

I read lots of reviews about how charming the old Hollywood feel of this property is. The hotel lobby is really cute with lots of movie star photos and charming details but walking in the room is a big let down. In my opinion, the motel hanging on because of that Hollywood connection. The room was not clean, which during COVID is a big deal. There was a lot of hair on the floor in the bathroom and in general the floor was simply dirty. It had not been washed in a while. (I took a wet towel and it was dirty after wiping the floor.) There was peeling paint on every wall in the bedroom and bathroom. The grab-and-go breakfast was ridiculous--a stale packaged plain bagel with a tiny packet of butter; a cold no-name stale Danish, a Capri Sun, an orange with a small bottle of water. The orange was very good. I'll admit that once I saw how much hair was on the bathroom floor, the rest of my opinion was downhill. Cleanliness is really very easy, it's just soap and water.

A Hotel of Movie Star and Photos

The lodge rooms are named after famous movie stars from the 40's and 50's. The rooms are small but adequate and the bathrooms do need to be updated. The bed was comfortable and the place was very quiet. Every night an old western is shown in the theater in a barn-like structure. The breakfast, which is included in the room cost, is very good - lots of delicious choices.

Why would you stay anywhere else?

The Parry Lodge was just perfect. It baffles me as to why anyone would choose to stay elsewhere...... 1. Best location in town, hands down. Could walk to restaurants, shops, etc. 2. Historic - movie history of Hollywood westerns - you definitely get this feel here. 3. Rooms - Super clean. Not modernized but to us, this was part of the appeal. I didn't want to feel as if I was in a chain hotel. 4. Movies in this cool old barn each night 5. Breakfast - I NEVER comment on breakfast, but the food was so delicious, yummy, plentiful. 6. Swimming pool - kids loved it.

We enjoyed our three day stay at the Parry Lodge for the annual Kanab Writers Conference. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Some remodeling was taking place, but it didn’t interfere with our stay. The buffet style breakfast each morning was well prepared. The nostalgic photos in the lobby and dining area were a treat. Would stay again.

Historic motel where Hollywood Western stars used to stay - all the rooms are named after film stars. Our cabin was quiet and comfortable, with a nice front deck for sitting in warm weather. Lots of history in the lobby and the restaurant. Excellent buffet breakfast. Central location - walking distance to restaurants. Nice heated pool. Good base fror Zion and Bryce canyons. Not the cheapest in Kanab but definitely the most charm!
