Our stay started very unpleasant because of Jacob. During our check in, his tone was already unfriendy, very short in his questions and he gave us no furhter information. Our roomnumber was written down, but we couldn't read if the first number was a 4 or 6. We asked him. He told us that he couldn't say it  loud, that we had it wrong, but that it was 'just ahead'. He send us away down some stairs. We were looking at different places but were not able to find it (tired en with heavy luggage). After I feld down the stairs en hurt myself, I wend back and asked again. He was very rude at me and acted like I was stupid en send me back again without helping. An other worker helped us finding our room en apologized for the behavior of his colleague.

Even better

The rooms have all been refurbished which we hadn't expected, and now have a lighter feel to them. We've stayed here before end know what to expect and are more than happy with it. No wifi in room and limited in lobby, your food choice may lead to a walk to another accommodation block, and it can be very crowded the middle of the day. Hit and miss parking. So plan for this and you will be delighted. Check in smooth and friendly (usually not till 4pm), lovely rim view from our cabin with two comfortable chairs, small fridge and coffee machine. Small bathroom. TV with a few channels. We opted out of daily housekeeping and were pleased to be given two plastic water bottles. They topped up our coffee when asked. Really good efforts being made by Xanterra to be environmentally friendly in this delicate environment. Just hope housekeeping staff aren't cut in consequence of the opt out but instead given a bit extra time to prepare rooms for new occupants and help them keep their lovely new appearance. This is one of our favourite places.

We visited the Grand Canyon as part of a de-tour on our Route 66 adventure. We has previously taken a helicopter ride into the canyon from Las Vegas and we found our experience at the south rim much more breathtaking. I don't believe you can appreciate the beauty of the canyon when you are inside it but looking over the edge was something completely different. I am so glad we came. Parking here was very busy but we were lucky enough to find a space in order to check-in. Our cabin was clean, spacious and comfortable. The village is self-contained and due to all the driving on our trip it was nice to just park up and relax for the evening. We were situated just a few steps from the rim and it was as beautiful as it was surreal. Waking up and having a coffee sat on the edge of the Grand Canyon is an experience I will remember forever. Thank you for an unforgettable experience Bright Angel Lodge!

This suite at Bright Angel is right on the rim and has two rooms. You pay for the location and the ambiance. We stayed here a couple of years ago and returned for both of those reasons. It is pricey but cannot be beat especially for the relative solitude morning and evening when the crowds go

Sorry but I’m going to buck the ‘excellent’ trend. This place is complacent, overrated and not that good quality.

The thing with hotels in national parks which have a monopoly on accommodation and dining, is that they can charge what they like, but also get complacent as there is no competition. The Bright Angel is a prime example of this. Firstly the accommodation (a cabin in this case) was small, but clean. The notable thing was the smell - very musty and old. The room needed a good airing. The smell was something that was replicated in the main reception area. Both myself and the wife commented on the distinct bleach smell around the gift shop which was unpleasant. Now to the food ! I ate a bar snack and dinner. Both were overpriced and poor quality. The ‘tata nachos’ on the bar were nothing more than deep fried potato croquettes with artificial cheese over the top. Not particularly good. The dinner menu lacks choice and is not particularly inspiring. This is all due to not having to compete ! Service - not notable and again very complacent. The female staff member serving tables in the bar was particularly moody ! All in all I likened this to being in a set from either Dirty Dancing or Friday the 13th (the first one for film aficionados). It had that unique 1959’s enclosed slightly claustrophobic feel to it with a brown decor that made me think my eyes were malfunctioning. I’ve been in the USA for a week so far. This was the worst quality and service experienced to date.
