We stayed in the motel section because we like to have our own bathroom and a TV. Our room was quaint (log walls) and very comfortable (though a little small). The beds were comfortable and the room had everything we would need (the closed is just a rod in the corner, but it works). It was cold outside but our room stayed warm - either they have the best insulation ever or a fantastic heating system that you never hear go on or off. Other reviews indicated breakfast vouchers for every day but we only got one. However, the Timberline Cafe had such reasonable prices, it was still a bargain and with fast service and good food.

Great Hotel for Yellowstone Visitors

I’m the Executive Director of the Florida Center for Creative Photography. Every fall, for the last five years, I have lead Photo Tours to Yellowstone National Park and used The Historic Madison Hotel as our basecamp. It is just a block or so from the park boundary. It really doesn’t get more convenient. I’ve rented from 4 to 8 rooms every fall for the last 5 years and had no issues with the staff, management, rooms etc. This is a great place to stay if you’re spending the majority of your days in Yellowstone. These are not deluxe/high end accommodations. They are more towards the basic, but clean, safe and very affordable. In 5 years, I’ve not had a single complaint from any our our members attending our PhotoTours. The rooms are basic, but updated, and ideal for individuals, couples and groups, like ours. The location is quiet at night, but centrally located with multiple restaurants within walking distance. The restaurant next door opens at 6 AM and is great for a quick breakfast and then into the park. The rooms are clean and offer ample outlets to charge the batteries, power the laptops and hard drives, which have become a necessity for digital photography and video. The beds/pillows are comfortable and and are new/newer. No issues with the multiple rooms we rent. The staff is very pleasant and always take care of our members, whatever they need. The check in for our group was quick and efficient. We book directly with the hotel and get a very competitive rate. The hotel does not offer a complimentary breakfast. They do offer free coffee, hot chocolate, and other basic amenities. I think the best compliment I can offer, is we have already booked our rooms from 2020. We’re excited to be heading to Yellowstone in 2020 and staying for our sixth year at The Historic Madison Hotel.

Don't stay here unless you just can't possibly afford anyplace else!.

The room was very tiny and NOT clean. The caulking in the shower was stained, there were hairs on the toilet seat and a lot of dirt on the baseboards. The bathroom window did not close all the way and there was a stain that looked like blood on the cloth on the nightstand. In the same hall were hostel rooms which did not have private baths. People were up and down the hallway making noise at all hours. The person at the desk was not friendly. I rarely write very negative reviews, but I feel it is necessary for this hotel.

Sketchy with payment

They left. I’d made an online reservation for my daughter online then the desk wouldn’t take payment without my card there. I spoke with the front desk and Travelocity. I was paying for my daughter to stay and had already done payment online. The way they wanted to take payment was sketchy so I had them leave. I’ll probably skip them and Travelocity from now on.

Lovely historic hotel in center of town

Great hotel in the center of historic western town. Room small but very comfortable, good mattress, nice bathroom. Extremely clean. Rustic ambiance reminiscent of the old west. Lovely gift shop and lounge area with tv on 1st floor. Adjacent restaurant has good breakfast and dinner, and hotel gives a generous voucher to use there.
