Stayed at the hotel after the main tourist season in October and was really impressed with the place. It's updated, but maintains a lot of the feeling of what it must have been like when built in the early 1900's. The room we chose was in the hotel, upstairs on the second floor. The room had log walls and in the bathroom, an old style tub. The bed very comfortable and new. The furniture also preserved the rustic look and feel of the hotel. There are no phones, TV's, etc in the rooms, but the free WiFi worked well. The common area downstairs is amazing. Log construction, rustic feel with a fireplace to warm it. There is a TV, a few games, sofa and comfortable chairs to relax in. If you go there, look at the detail in restoring it, in the back corner near the entrance of the gift shop there is an old phone booth with a very old pay phone (5 cents a call marked on it.) The owner took us on a tour of the motel rooms which are also on site. The rooms have been completely re-done, new beds, carpet, painted, with a lot of modern-rustic touches. If I didn't like the older feel of the hotel I'd stay there. The staff were very friendly and helpful, made us feel very at home. There's coffee and a hot chocolate machine in the back of the hotel, 24 hours a day. I can't really say enough good things about the place. I travel a lot for work, and stay in the corporate style rooms almost 70% of my life. It was really refreshing to stay at the Madison which really made the trip feel like a vacation.

Right in the centre of all the action and very close to the park entrance. Room was small and literally on the road, not too fragrantly fresh and the A/C was old and noisy and right by the bed which, however, was comfortable. Lots of coffee and drinks available 24/7 but not close to the room The staff were the best! very helpful and there was an amazing, tasty restaurant next door... also well stocked supermarket very close... a bit noisy through the night because of the proximity to the road.

The best part of the Madison Hotel is we got an authentic/historic Yellowstone experience, conveniently located two blocks from the park entrance, at an affordable price. Granted, I went during the first week of the off season, but I'd start looking here if I were to return to Yellowstone. There are other chain hotels nearby, but they're farther away from the park and away for the kitschy (and lovely) downtown West Yellowstone. The hotel was a clean, cabin/outdoor theme with modern amenities. My family was welcomed and the staff was incredible.

First things first. The staff was incredibly friendly - we felt genuinely welcomed. Rustic, 'old-fashioned' neighborhood kind of feel. It's centrally located with a good selection of sundries/shopping in quick walking distance and is essentially on the door-step to Yellowstone park. We appreciated the $10 vouchers for the Timberline restaurant next door. (There were 3 sharing the room - and, we got 3 vouchers!) - Timberline, btw, has basic, hearty breakfast choices - we went there each morning. Our room at the Madison was quite small. Two double (pseudo-queen) beds barely fit. While small and spartan, the room was certainly adequate. WiFi is complimentary - but the connection in our room was very poor. Bathroom had a shower stall. The room and bath were pretty dated - not much spent on them recently from our vantage. Then there's the price. Well, OK, I get it. They have a limited peak season and can't imagine there's much business during Winter snow drifts. But still, the price was way out of line for the quality of the room. In fact, stayed at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis a week later for a lower price. Just sayin'. Would we stay here again? No plans to be back anytime soon - but would certainly consider it. Again, the friendliness of everyone at the Madison and Timberline was worth it. And, location, location, location. But I'll be thinking about that price more carefully next time.
