Historic Hotel in Great Location

We spent two nights at the Belton Chalet and found it to be an excellent place to stay to see Glacier NP--even though the main road through the park was closed due to the fires. I'm an architect and really loved the building. The second thing that impressed us was the knowledge of desk clerk Alex--he's a young guy but it was like talking with a seasoned Park Ranger. The room was nice--clean and quiet--trains pass nearby (the hotel was built originally by the railroad), but they did not wake us up. In the morning they had good coffee in the lobby area--and a lot of history.

Character hotel in a great location but lacks modern comfort

A fantastic old wooden chalet which has been sympathetically restored but unfortunately doesn't therefore give modern day comfort. Pricey for what you get. It is however very convenient for the West Glacier entrance of the park - when open. At first glance the room looked like something from a sanitorium with it's old iron frame bed and rustic furniture.. There was a door out onto the balcony but no view. The room was small and poky with creaky chairs and a rug that got in the way of the bathroom door opening and closing. It felt cramped. Worst of all however was the lack of drink making facilities in the room. I was told there would be coffee available in a morning and that there was a games room downstairs, but it was only by chance we found the hot water dispenser. There were then no mugs to put a drink in, although when I asked they kindly found some - no Tea bags or coffee provided and no milk - fortunately we also had those with us as well. Parking near the room is first come first served or you end up down the hill. No breakfast on site which we knew in advance but you can walk next door to the motel which does excellent food. The restaurant on site however served excellent gourmet quality food in an evening although booking is strongly recommended. Unlike some other reviews I read before we went, the constant train traffic on the line was clearly audible and ear plugs are provided however it didn't bother us at all - even in the night.

We stayed at the Lewis cabin the last weekend in September 2018 and it was simply wonderful! Yes, it is extremely close to the 2 lane highway and the train station but because of all the other wonderful qualities....it didn't really matter. We have a 4 and 5 year old and they couldn't have loved our cabin more. The kids begged us to go back to the cabin while we were out in Glacier National Park (all 3 days). Watching the trains was so fun! It didn't bother me like I thought it would. I slept fine. What you get is an adorable, historic cabin that is decorated in the period it was built, and a few steps away from the cabin is a Tap Room with craft drinks and local fruits, and a fantastic restaurant with delicious food! If you are sensitive to sounds....I would not recommend the cabins. We had no problem at all with the sounds. Ideal location, the staff is outstanding, and the grounds are beautiful and very well maintained. We felt very blessed that we missed the fires and that the Belton Chalet held on and remained open to wait out the fires. Thank you BC! We will see you next year!

Old fashioned but comfortable

The point of this hotel is to be old fashioned and they certainly hit the mark. But it's very cute and comfortable. In what appeared to be a full bed with an iron frame, my not small husband and myself (very not small) were comfortable. The bathroom was small, with a toilet and shower stall, sink in the room, but it functioned. We got here late in the day, ate dinner, and spent some time on the balcony, just watching the sunset. A very relaxing stay in West Glacier.

High Point of our Trip to Glacier

Three of us were visiting Glacier in mid-September and our first night was spent at the Belton. It is truly a historic hotel, absolutely pristine: we felt as though our rooms had just been painted and cleaned meticulously. The common areas were gorgeous and reflected a different time (1913, to be exact!). We arrived, checked in and then played ping pong and shuffle board in the basement for 2 hours. We then walked over the adjacent restaurant and had absolutely THE BEST meal of our 7 day trip. The service was sublime, and the food was exquisite. We stayed in several premium lodges during our stay at Glacier, but the Belton was the high point, by far. Please don't miss out on this experience. The staff, young people from the US and beyond, were a joy to talk with and extremely attentive to the guests. You won't be disappointed!
