Beautiful, historic stay

The hotel is a beautiful, historic place in a one-of-a-kind national park. The staff was very nice at check-in, the restaurant was excellent, and the room was very comfortable with good beds, a microwave, coffee maker, and fridge. There is no TV in the room, and we were happy to read and fall asleep early after exciting days of hiking and touring. The views and nearby hikes are spectacular and the nearby historic Mammoth post office, government buildings, and army base are lovely and still house a visitor center and staff homes. Gardiner, MT is just a few miles away for additional restaurant options.

Shamefully bad lodging and service. A national disgrace.

My son and I stayed one night at Mammoth Hot Springs Lodge, on Jan 1. Despite the steep prices we were paying, everything was a disappointment. The room had no hot water. The food was inedible and the service disorganized and lacking basic training in hospitality. Just a horrible reflection on the US National Park Service. Xanterra has fallen asleep at the wheel and should lose their license to operate before the damage is irreparable.

Gluten free not an option

My daughter and I visited 2 weeks into the “off season” and only select restaurants were open. They had ZERO gluten free options so we literally had to bring ALL of our own food for the entire trip! Room and bathroom are quite dated. A free standing claw tub with shower curtain was a bit tricky and sink was extremely small.

I’m sad to write this review, but people need to know. After 9 years of living within a four hour drive of Yellowstone, my family and I decided to finally make the journey and explore this beautiful land. Yellowstone National Park did not disappoint, but sadly the filthy conditions in cabin b2 at Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel & Cabins is letting America down. Xanterra, do better. I’ll begin with a positive: each staff member we encountered was friendly and accommodating. That said, for the amount of money we spent on the cabin, the floors were completely ignored -dirty upon arrival, and hair left in the bathroom. We had to request toilet paper due to only 1/3 of a roll being there upon entry, and as far as requesting a vacuum my husband ended up vacuuming the floor himself after they kindly brought us one the next evening. The shower curtain was also a health concern being stained with pink mildew. The restaurant - the dining room was the only option since the casual grill was closed and we chose to wait the hour to be seated instead of venturing outside the park to find another option. We were willing to do that. Well…maybe we should’ve taken that venture. The food was awful. My lobster & corn chowder was inedible, along with my son’s dry hamburger. My husband ate his half chicken, although the pink insides were a clear warning to steer clear. So we will plan a revisit to the magnificent park, just not this accommodation again.

The cabin is very basic. No coffee pot and no AC, which we knew prior to booking. The carpet inside was filthy and the cabin is joined to another cabin which makes it very noisy and close to your neighbor when sitting on your deck. The lodge ran out of coffee in the morning and no one around to refill it. We ate at the grill for lunch and they were practically out of everything on the menu and just hand you your food, no trays to put it on. Very over priced for what you get and we would not stay again. The elk were amazing, they were lying in front of our cabin when we pulled up. What a greeting!
