Lake McDonald is breathtaking! Boat dock with kayak rentals and site seeing boat tours available. Agar Village has gift shop, ice cream, coffee and restrooms. We rented kayaks and went on the lake for an awesome afternoon! Don't go to Glacier National Park without stopping to experience Lake McDonald!

This National Park lodge is among the best we have visited over the years. Xanterra has improved it’s dining service since our last visit to one of their properties and that was a welcome change. Other reviews have described this lodge in detail, so please read them. We had a corner room in the main building but facing the front of the lodge instead of the lake. Not perfect, but quite nice since the only time we spent in the room was sleeping and bathing. There in peak season, everything was crowded, but the hard working staff seemed to handle it well. As for WIFI...forget it. While it may technically exist, the demand for it far outstrips the capacity. If you need to remain connected at all times, stay home.

There is a lot to Lake McDonald (cabins, lodge, store, beach). We had a free afternoon in the park after doing a morning hike, and our young kids (age 7, 8, 9, and 10) wanted to swim. We went to the beach just below the lodge. It was a relaxing day letting the kids play in the water while taking in the breathtaking view. The water was cool, but definitely not cold. I found it refreshing to get in. We stayed for about 2 hours letting the kids swim and play. On our way out we stopped at the convenience store. There was quite a selection of souvenirs and we bought a few of them.

we needed help getting our 2 bags to our room and jeff appeared out of nowhere and took care of getting our bags to our room immediately. when i called down to ask how we could keep hubby's meds cool, the gal said they would bring up a 'mini frig' - again, jeff, the magic genie, appeared within minutes with the plug-in portable mini frig. unbelievable. the room we had on the second floor of the lodge facing the lake was great. what you would expect in an old lodge. small, yet comfortable. walls are pretty thin, so you can hear voices early in the morning or late at night - sometimes softly, sometimes not so softly next door. you might also hear doors closing, kids running, people talking and laughing in the lobby area. but these are good signs of life being lived. :) jeff again to the rescue when it was time to leave. there are walks to take in the area, stars to gaze at from the deck overlooking the lake. ranger talks to listen to. the possibilities are endless.
